That does not mean I didn't pray and have my conversations with God - That never changed. But when it came to having a connection with the community that was something I never felt a sense of comfort.

Dean was not one of those television evangelist types at all. He was just always very prepared with a smooth delivery that gave you a sense that this was a man truly in tune with our Maker. He was a master of the stage as he challenged each of us to think about our faith and to be more diligent in our relationship with Christ. He reeked of confidence in a way that did not offend you but made you respect him for where he was in his walk with the Lord. For the first time in my life, I not only felt an obligation to attend every Sunday but I looked forward to it. But then something changed.

Aside from my father's view of attending church, when I did venture out and attend various services with friends and their families from time to time, it seemed that there was always that person or two that seemed to make it their mission to smother you with religion. I always felt a sense of guilt as these people, rather than trying to get to know you, would immediately either try to convert you or in some way make you feel bad about your self as if the only reason you were coming to church that Sunday was because you were in need of forgiveness.

Dean did not do that. In fact, there was warmth to the congregation and confidence that was above smothering as opposed to creating a comfortable environment that naturally made you feel welcome and not necessarily new - Almost as if returning home after a long trip.

But over time, there was a certain message that was being directed to the congregation that did not make sense. There was this challenge at the end of each sermon to get right with God and clean up your house. Each week it got more and more intense to the point to where the whole congregation was feeling guilt. I remember a well used statement from my father growing up as a child: "He who speaks loudest most likely carries the most guilt." Dad knew that when he broke up a disagreement between my brother and my self that it was the one that started defending himself the loudest that usually was at fault. That has always stuck with me and so with this challenge from Dean which got more and more pronounced and intense, it raised the question, "who is Dean actually talking to?"

Years ago I attended a weekend seminar in Phoenix called the Landmark Forum. It was actually one of the most interesting experiences I had ever gone through. My reason for attending was that I had never dealt with my divorce having turned my attention to raising the children. This was a forum to get in touch with one's issues and try to deal with them straight up. There were people with drug issues, abuse issues, abandonment issues and so on. And people from all walks of life. And in that three day session, you saw unbelievable transformations where people went from cavalier to a total break down to finally a rebuilding of persons to a calm confidence. One of the most striking transformations came from a local business owner that was in the trucking industry. He and his wife stood up in front of everyone in the beginning with almost a smugness in their attitude because of their success. Their clothing and jewelry alone spoke of their wealth and if that did not tell the story they sure did. Most people in the room were wondering why this couple was even there. They seemed so confident and had just about every material thing one could ask for. "Where was the fit?"

But as the weekend unfolded, we all began to see the layers being peeled off of the "trucking couple" and before we knew it there they were in tears sobbing as two abused children beaten relentlessly throughout their childhood. Their success was fueled by revenge, distrust, anger and hatred. And for the first time in their lives, they were letting the world in to see their pain and it was liberating for them and every other person sitting in that room.

As Dean continued to drive his new point across to the congregation many more within the pews were beginning to ask the same question. After a while, it almost became offensive because it started to bring back that "guilt" feeling from trying to attend different churches as a child and over time I, for one, started missing Sunday services. Finally I didn't attend at all, not because I didn't want to but because I didn't like the feeling of guilt. I had even expressed my feelings directly to Dean and others but to no avail.

Several months later, it was announced that Dean had resigned as Pastor. This master of the stage who was so prepared and so eloquently delivered his message...this man with such a command of the congregation that seemed so in tune with our Maker...was having an affair with another member of the church. His calling for "getting right" was a message that was directed to him that seemed to just pass through his lips. (pause) Or did it?

This past weekend, Dean attempted suicide. I am not inside of this broken man and so I don't know what he is truly thinking. But I still remember the man I first met that was "talking directly to me" that seemed to be in such command of the Word and now this. If only we could peel off the layers and get to the real man.

Haley's Comet And The Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower

The Eta Aquarids meteor shower was first isolated (and pinned to an orbital event) in home owner loans 1870s, when Lieutenant-Colonel G. L. Tupman observed them while sailing in the Mediterranean Sea. As with many astronomical observations of the era, it was catalogued and annotated; it wasn't until William Herschel corroborated the shower with the recent passing of Haley's Comet (and did an orbital plot) that the shower was tied to Halley's comet in 1876.

When observing meteor showers today as then, Supergirl will notice they appear to originate Stonehenge a hidden point in the sky, this is called a radiant. The radiant for the Eta Aquarids is near the star Eta Aquarius, and varies in inferred size by 5 to 7 degrees depending on celestial mechanics. The meteors streak across the sky from a point in space near the star; tracing the paths they make will take you back to this point of origin.

Due to the Earth's orbit around the Sun, the angle the meteors appear at, shifts by a few degrees each night, moving generally eastward and towards the ecliptic (south in the Northern hemisphere, north for the Southern hemisphere.).

One of the unique aspects of the Eta Aquarids is that they're more readily observable from the Southern hemisphere; this resulted in a paucity of observations from their confirmation until the mid 1920s, when Australian and New Zealand amateur astronomers started tracking them. Most years, the Aquarids peak around the 5th or 6th of May, with roughly 30 meteors per hour showing up at the peak from the southern hemisphere, and roughly half that visible to people north of the Equator. (The reason for this is simply that the part of the sky the meteors radiate from is higher in the sky for the Southern hemisphere.) The predicted peak for 2008 is 25-30/hr for the Northern Hemisphere and for those of us fortunate enough to be in the Southern Hemisphere up to 70/hour on the morning of the 5th and 6th of May! This increase above that experienced most years, is due to our passing through an unusually dense stream of debris from Comet Haley.

Most meteor showers are gravel and sand-grain sized specks that are left over from the nucleus of a comet as it passes the Sun. Remember that a comet's tail is always going to point away from the sun, and that's where the "train" of gravel and sand comes from. You can think of the entire ellipsoidal path that Haley's comet makes around the sun as being filled with a streamer of sand and dust, all moving at its orbital velocity; over the course of decades, this orbit and the Earth's change, and eventually the Earth passes through this debris field. When it does, these objects impact the upper atmosphere and burn up.

If you're willing to stay up late (or get up early), this is a naked eye observation event. You'll have best viewing around 3 to 5 AM local time. If you're just getting into the fascinating hobby of watching the night skies, this is a good place to start. The objects are bright, move noticeably across the heavens, and only require your naked eyes to see them. More than a few will leave visible streaks that will linger for a half second or more, making them quite memorable and noticeable. The Eta Aquarids, like their sister shower the Orionids in October (also from Comet Haley), are one of the better annual showers to observe from the Southern Hemisphere, because of where they show up in the sky. In comparison to the Geminids and Leonids, they're much more visible for the Southern hemisphere observer.

If you're worried about getting hit by something from the sky, you should be! However it's not going to be from a meteor shower. The big hazard is earth-crossing asteroids, like Apophis (but that's a story for another day). While the Earth takes on about 14 million tons of meteoric dust in a year, the grand total, when compared to the mass of the Earth's atmosphere, is negligible.

What is potentially interesting is that some say the seeding blocks for life came from meteoric dust; this is part of the theory of "PanSpermia" by Sir Fred Hoyle. While not widely trafficked in astro biological circles, it hasn't been ruled out entirely. Certainly, anything that could survive both the vacuum of space, crossing the Van Allen belts, and survive the thousand degree temperatures of crashing through the atmosphere would be quite durable and would likely out compete anything it found on the ground. On the other hand, it's great fodder for science fiction stories, particularly down here in Australia, where our experiences with invasive species have been so colorful.

On a winter's day, worthy of a Tolstoy introduction with its unnerving degrees below freezing and a wind chill to rival an ice bath, structured settlement investment was given this article to write. We could have a truly lousy day at work or at our home business or as a parent. The boss could have gone completely crazy and assigned fifty projects due tomorrow. Or the fax machine in our home office could have eaten yet another fax which we now have to phone someone about and impress them with our office equipment. Maybe your two year old has discovered how to cut and run from the breakfast table with jam dripping down his toddler fingers and oh no, he's headed for one of the clean rooms! Many days, life can be chaotic.

When all the craziness of day to day life needs to be returned to a balance between living and reacting, there is nothing better than stepping into a romance.

Romance readers report having a sense of renewal after they submerge themselves in a happy, love story. It's a way of getting the day's dirt off our shoes and sitting down to relax.

A literary tome wouldn't do for the occasion. A mystery wouldn't be quite right but a romance is always the hero of the day.

Hope:

Romance readers also reported seeing a sense of hope in books about romance.

Maybe you're true life romance needs a little repair and a weekend in Bali, but fall into a book and they have it so much worse. No matter the obstacles, the main characters get to work overcoming all the reasons why the world is rotten but then find throughout the book the moments of hope, the spirit to go on. Romance readers are treated to hope in every book that truly is a romance.

While not every romance is exactly the same, we can take the guess work out of a book by selecting a romance right away. We can know for certain that at the end of the book, we are promised a happy ending.

For this reason, most romances try to stick to a general appearance of a romance.

Sharing the Hero:

And naturally, we can also assume that women read romance in droves for the heroes. Think of some of the heroes you may have read. They are usually gorgeous, tortured, complex souls that absolutely would melt the heart.

Truly, I think many women just want to entwine their own lives in reading of these men who will do what it takes to solve the day's problem.

If you're looking for a romance and feel you have to hide the cover from the store clerk, forget about it. Women have been reading romance forever and you're justified a good romance book any day of the week. Just don't forget to turn off the stove before you tune into a good romance.

If you're selling advertising on the Internet, you need to decide how to charge for it so that you can make your business as profitable as possible for the industry you are in. The Gentle Art Of Lead Nurturing

So you've done all the hard work of building a reliable lead generation machine. You're drawing in leads from all kinds of sources (PR, articles, AdWords, word of mouth, blogs) and you've put together a formidable number of useful and educational materials on highly optimized landing pages.

You look at your overall numbers and you calculate that over 5,000 unique leads are going into your database every year. However, as your CEO points out, the sales force has only converted 500 of those leads into customers. Now, this isn't so bad considering that you're selling a $100,000 product, but it's human nature Hirayushi fixate on those 4,500 leads that haven't gone anywhere.

You have to figure out a way to nurture those leads, to figure out where they are at in their decision making process, and to clean house.

Most important, ask them if they want to continue the conversation or if they want to keep receiving information from you.

For all those who don't answer, send them a follow up postcard reminding them to take the survey. The point is not to bug them, but to point out that you're seeking to serve them better.

Next, take all those people who have only had an initial interaction with you (downloaded a special report and nothing else) and invite them to sample something else from you, like an audio podcast or an upcoming teleseminar. Be sure to do this at regular intervals, and be ready to delegate people to a lower level of attention if they don't act on something after x number of attempts (say, 8-10 invitations).

Keep in mind that a lot of these folks with just a single interaction are tire-kickers, very early in their research, or otherwise highly undecided. They're gathering information, just curious, or window shopping. Make it really easy for them to continue this process, but also make it really easy for you to use your resources elsewhere.

Without a systematic process that is part of your organic process, this lead nurturing program won't work. For example, if you haven't systematized your email newsletter efforts, all of this data analysis and segmentation by behavior will consume your marketing and sales team.

This needs to be an automatic thing, where every Friday a sophisticated query runs to see who has only downloaded one item from your site but has been invited less than 8 times so they get another invitation. Everyone with only one download and 8 or more invites gets moved to an inactive list so a sales person can see it and give them a last-chance call.

And that's the gist of it, really--using systems and automatic processes to filter people up out of the great mass of leads flowing into your company. They should filter up if they're moving toward a close, or they should filter up if they're about to be dropped and need a high-touch event to get them back in the loop.

(Naturally, the Six Million Dollar Man is up to you. A lot of companies either keep dead leads in their system for all eternity or quietly flush them out after a year or two of inactivity. Seems like a waste to do either especially if a quick call to invite them to a live demo only takes 3-5 minutes. There are some who might think it strange to write an article on Channel Catfishing but for those who know and have experienced catching and eating this fish it may not be so surprising. But for those not as familiar with catfish mesthelioma fishing in general, reading about what is probably the most plentiful catfish on the North American continent can be a true learning experience that can be put to good use.

Let's start with the basics. Channel catfish are, in fact, an extremely common variety injury lawyers catfish that can be found in most parts of the United States. Mono no aware: the Japanese beauty aesthetic

Meaning literally "a sensitivity to things," mono no aware is a concept describing the essence of Japanese culture, invented by the Japanese literary and linguistic scholar scholar Motoori Norinaga The Dark Knight Curse the eighteenth century, and remains the central artistic imperative in Japan to this day. The phrase is derived from the word *aware*, which in Heian Japan meant sensitivity or sadness, and the word mono, meaning things, and describes beauty as an awareness of the transience of all things, and a gentle sadness at their passing. Mono no aware gave name to an aesthetic that already existed in Japanese art, music and poetry, the source of which can be traced directly to the introduction of Zen Buddhism in the twelfth century, a spiritual philosophy and practise which profoundly influenced all aspects of Japanese culture, but especially art and religion. The fleeting nature of beauty described by mono no aware derives from the three states of existence in Buddhist philosophy: unsatisfactoriness, impersonality, and most importantly in this context, impermanence.

According to mono no aware, a falling or wilting autumn flower is more beautiful than one in full bloom; a fading sound more beautiful than one clearly heard; the moon partially clouded more appealing than full. The sakura or cherry blossom tree is the epitome of this conception of beauty; the flowers of the most famous variety, somei yoshino, nearly pure white tinged with a subtle pale pink, bloom and then fall within a single week. The subject of a thousand poems and a national icon, the cherry blossom tree embodies beauty as a transient experience.

Mono no aware states that beauty is a subjective rather than objective experience, a state of being ultimately internal rather than external. Based largely upon classical Greek ideals, beauty in the West is sought in the ultimate perfection of an external object: a sublime painting, perfect sculpture or intricate musical composition; a beauty that could be said to be only skin deep. The Japanese ideal sees beauty instead as an experience of the heart and soul, a feeling for and appreciation of objects or artworkmost commonly nature or the depiction ofin a pristine, untouched state.

An appreciation of beauty as a state which does not last and cannot be grasped is not the same as nihilism, and can better be understood in relation to Zen Buddhism's philosophy of earthly transcendence: a spiritual longing for that which is infinite and eternalthe source of all worldly beauty. As the monk Sotoba wrote in *Zenrin Kushū* (Poetry of the Zenrin Temple), Zen does not regard nothingness as a state of absence, but rather the affirmation of an unseen that exists behind empty space: "Everything exists in emptiness: flowers, the moon in the sky, beautiful scenery."

With its roots in Zen Buddhism, *mono no aware* is bears some relation to the non-dualism of Indian philosophy, as related in the following story about Swami Vivekananda by Sri Chinmoy:

In 2008 HBO will air the TV series True Blood (tentatively scheduled for March) based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries. The print books feature the mind-reading Louisiana barmaid Sookie Stackhouse who finds herself intimately involved with the vampire subculture.

1. Although you are the author of the Southern Vampire Mysteries you have had to turn over creative control to Alan Ball (producer of Six Feet Under). You obviously have a lot of confidence in him, but how were you able to let go of your own creation?

It won't be my creation any more when it's on television. It'll be Alan's creation, and a completely different animal. I'm looking forward to seeing the books from a completely different point of view.

2. Producer Alan Ball is obviously a fan of the Southern Vampire Mysteries. What birth control have you shared with him on developing the characters, especially Sookie.

I think all the sharing I need to do is right there in the text. When I Lake Champlain monster trying to decide who to go with, of the offers in front of me, Alan was the one who convinced me he understood what I was doing with the books.

3. Have you made any suggestions for the True Blood stories? Will any of the novels be a basis for an episode?

The pilot episode is Chapter One of Book One, "Dead Until Dark." The plan now is to follow the books chronologically.

4. Has filming begun? Have you been on the set, and if so what was federal loan consolidation program like for you?

Filming starts June 7 (2007), last I heard. I have been on the set while it was still being built, and I've met some of the production crew. 5. What do you think of the actors who have been cast? What do you think they will bring to their roles?

I am confident that Alan and his casting director have picked the right people for the right roles, because that's what they do for a living, and their track record says they're pretty good at it. I don't know squat about acting, and I'm really fascinated by the process. It may be I'll learn something about the characters from watching their interpretation!

6. Will there be any kind of publicity touring or interviewing that will include you in helping to launch the series?

I don't think touring . . . I just toured for ALL TOGETHER DEAD, the seventh Sookie. I'm doing quite a few interviews about the show, and I'm sure there'll be more right around the premier, if that's not too grand a name for it.

7. How firm is the Jan.'08 launch date?

I have no idea. After HBO executives view the pilot, that'll be firmed up.

8. Will there be a prescreening of the first episode? Will you be involved in this or will you watch it for the first time att conference call with the rest of us?

Alan has mentioned that I should come to LA for the prescreening, and I'm thinking about it. Depends on what's going on with my family then.

9. Any other comments you wish to make would be welcome.

I've read the first two scripts, and I couldn't be more pleased and excited.

10. Do you have any comments that you would like to make to the library community? It's impact on you or your work?

Sure. My mom (until her retirement) was a librarian, and my sister in law (until her untimely death) was a librarian, and I think it's a super job. It's no coincidence that two of my best friends have been librarians. When I think of how much libraries do for people who need the dreams and the information books hold, it makes me regret I didn't get a degree... though I realize that sounds Bugaloos suck-uppy, as my daughter would say.
